for Younger Visitors ....

The museum has something to offer younger visitors.

The Oriole Children's Gallery is a fun 'hands on' exhibit specially designed for children between four and ten years of age. For groups visiting from elementary and secondary level schools the museum offers educational packages to enhance their visit and learning experience.

THE ORIOLE CHILDREN'S GALLERY IS A CLASSROOM IN A MUSEUM:

GALLERY FEATURES INCLUDE:
  • An introduction to naval terms;
  • books and games;
  • explore the ocean with ‘the magic school bus’;
  • life jackets, flippers & masks;
  • activities to stimulate memory and hand-to-eye co-ordination;
  • knot board with four basic knots children can learn;
  • magnet board with nautical shapes;
  • signal flags display & activities;
  • reading centre with books on nautical themes.

Educational Packages

CFB Esquimalt Naval and Military Museum offers quizzes for elementary and secondary level students to test their knowledge of history, and leave them better informed about the navy’s important role in Canada’s development as a nation. The response to the quizzes from students and teachers has been positive, and more and more school tour groups are taking advantage of the opportunity to use CFB Esquimalt Naval and Military Museum as a resource.
